Fertility AwarenessThe Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is a form of natural birth control that involves monitoring and charting several reliable fertility indicators to observe the exact time of ovulation and make decisions around this information. FAM can be used to prevent or achieve pregnancy, and it offers a valuable tool for self-knowledge. FAM is different from the notoriously inaccurate Rhythm method, and, when used accurately and consistently, it is as effective at preventing pregnancy as hormonal contraceptives pills. This series of two classes covers the basics of FAM and prepares participants to begin charting their own fertility cycles. The course also includes a private session with the instructor 2-3 months after the last class, to discuss an review your own chart, and ask follow-up questions as you become more familiar with the method. For more information about FAM, please see Toni Weshcler’s site. Students should bring Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler, MPH to class. The instructor is also available by appointment to address individual questions and concerns. |
